Frequently Asked Questions & Answer

Which SMTP server do I use in scripts?

“Here are settings you can use to send e-mail from the scripts on your web hosting. We require encryption for all outgoing e-mail. SMTP information: SMTP server: mail.uniweb.no Port number: 587 (STARTTLS encryption) or 465 (SSL/TLS encryption) Authentication: your e-mail address as username + password See our Service Agreement for applicable outgoing email restrictions .”

Why does blacklisted email still get through?

“Why does an email get through to the inbox when you have blacklisted the address it comes from? First, we need to clarify the following problem: Those who send newsletters or advertising by e-mail tend to send from different systems each time. An entry on the blacklist in the control panel will then often not work because they change the sender address every time. The image below shows a good example of a mistake many people make – and which is difficult to detect. The email comes from TV2 Sumo, and Thunderbird shows that it comes from [email protected] (1). However, it is not certain that this email address needs to be blacklisted. To see the real sender, you have to show what is called “”message header””, “”source code””, “”original”” or similar. In Thunderbird, you can find this by pressing “”More”” (2) and “”Show source code””. In the new window that appears, you will find a field called “” envelope-from “”. The email address that appears in this field is the actual sender. The example shows “”envelope-from: [email protected] “”. This means that the email actually comes from the bounce.agillic.eu subdomain. The correct address to blacklist in the control panel for your e-mail address is therefore the following: *@bounce.agillic.eu This way you blacklist all e-mails coming from the bounce.agillic.eu subdomain. (Be sure to use only lowercase letters when blacklisting. The system does not understand uppercase letters.)”

Which MX records does Uniweb have?

“To deliver e-mail to Uniweb’s servers, the following MX record is used in DNS: mx01.uniweb.no”

What is the difference between POP and IMAP?

“POP/POP3 If you choose POP/POP3 as the account type in your e-mail program, regardless of whether it is on a PC or on a smartphone, all e-mail in the inbox will be downloaded to your program at the same time as it is deleted from our e-mail server. The e-mails will therefore only be on the device you downloaded them to. The disadvantage of POP/POP3 is that e-mails are only left on the first device you download them to, nowhere else. NOTE: Are you going to switch from POP to IMAP? Do not delete your POP account! Then there is a high risk that all e-mails will be deleted. Set up a new IMAP account in the e-mail program and move all e-mails there before deleting the POP account. IMAP With account type IMAP, your e-mail program or app will always mirror the contents of the inbox and other folders on our e-mail server. This means that all the e-mails are in your program at the same time as they are safely stored on our server. This is very convenient when you want to set up your email address on several devices, such as a PC, smartphone and tablet. If you delete e-mail on one of the devices, this will be mirrored to the others, so that the contents of the inbox and e-mail folders are the same everywhere. By default, deleted e-mails are placed in a trash folder, both on the server and in your e-mail program. It will therefore be possible to retrieve deleted e-mails later. We recommend IMAP!”

Do I need a domain name to have my own email address?

More and more people want to have a personal e-mail address. To have your personal email address you will need the following: 1. Your own domain name. If you do not have a suitable domain, you can search and order this via our website . Be aware that domains with special characters or special Norwegian letters can cause problems. 2. Access to create email addresses. You will have access to create this if you have ordered either a separate e-mail package or web hosting for the domain. Once the domain name and email package are in place, you are ready to create email addresses as you wish. Here is a guide that will show you this process.
